(Frifotos is a weekly photo forum on Twitter. This week, the theme is “gold,” hence why I am posting some “golden oldies” taken during my very first international trip. This is as clever as I could manage on an ear infection, go with it.)
These pictures are as sentimental to me as they are shockingly terrible to you, I would imagine. Some of them are literally pictures of nothing, but I just remember how ecstatic I was when I was taking them and it still makes me laugh. It’s amazing what fascinates us the first time we leave the country, isn’t it? Even street signs blew my mind. It’s a shame that this trip apparently occurred before I knew how to use a camera.

I’d never seen one of these before and thought it was hilarious whenever one would be stopped next to a bus. I still kind of think it’s hilarious.

Wow, what an appetizing and not at all blurry picture of my meal. Clearly my hands were shaking at the prospect of eating snails and frogs’ legs.

Ah yes, no photo of Mont St. Michel would be complete without the reflection of the bus window in the foreground.

Hah this is great.
I had other talents, I suppose.
I wrote a whole post about how I hate digital cameras and wish I could just buy a 35mm point and shoot again, so I thought this was hilarious. This is pretty much what all of my pictures look like!
I think this was more a problem with me and less a problem with the type of camera, haha. Thanks for stopping by!
You’re too funny! i love these shots! i’m super attracted to barely any food on the plate pics…LOL

Haha yeah, I mean who wants to see the food when it’s all gorgeous and fully assembled? Sadly there are several of those shots in this particular collection, but that one was the worst/most hilarious
I actually quite like the reflection of the bus. Is that bad probably. I have a thing for taking pics of the back of peoples heads so I can’t really talk.

There’s probably an artsy/skillful way to do it, but clearly I had not mastered that. And still haven’t.
Can totally relate to this. I was just editing old travel photos that have been sitting on my computer waaaay too long, and I was kinda horrified by some of the things I deemed worth photographing, not to mention the lamp posts and wires running through my photos… I guess that must mean I’m improving, right?

Dude I hope it means we’re improving. Otherwise it looks like we’re set to be featured on Sam’s next “How NOT to take travel photos,” haha
Awesome
I love it when we can make fun of ourselves! ha ha!

Me too, and I have so many opportunities
These pictures make me so happy. You have no idea. My first time overseas, I still had an old camera with film… And then when I did start using my digital camera, I was so stingy with actually taking photos!.. and also didn’t know how to use it. Blurry photo? Perfect! It’s a photo! And I can sooooo relate to everything exciting you, yes even street signs. Actually, they still excite me…
Thanks for sharing these! I think a lot of people don’t have the balls to share their less than brilliant first time traveling photos!.. although in this context, I think yours ARE brilliant! x

Haha I think it’s less to do with having balls and more to do with having almost no shame. Some things are just too hilarious/pathetic not to share on the Internet. And I agree with you — street signs are still exciting to me. Put a foreign word on anything and chances are I will think it is awesome.
Because you linked to this post in your most recent, I am revisiting this… I still love it.
