Any Americans out there remember that show “Kids Say the Darndest Things”? As I’ve gotten older, the implication that only kids can say hilarious things seems stranger and stranger to me. You should hear my uncle playing any board game or read any of my father’s text messages regarding my cat.
When I’m traveling alone, I pay more attention to the conversations happening around me than I would if I had a companion. Some people become more social when they travel alone, but I become the opposite — I can entertain myself really easily, and I prefer observation to participation.
When I was at the Grand Canyon two fridays ago, I overheard the other people wandering around saying the most bizarre or spot-on things. Naturally, instead of engaging myself in the conversation, I immediately pulled out my phone and wrote down several of the quotes before I could forget them. I’m using them as the captions for these pictures I took.
Real life is genuinely stranger than fiction, sometimes.

“How many people do you think have committed suicide at the Grand Canyon?” “…Dale, let’s think about happier things than that.”

Dale is my favourite.
Dale was not about to have any fun at the Grand Canyon.
This is actually a really good idea…I want to do this now! I’m thinking you’d probably get the best captions if you follow around families with kids and stoners, although listening to the latter for too long could very well be the reason for Dale’s comment…

I want Dale to caption all my photos. What a guy.
